It'due south a Lexus fundamental which would cost 250$ to supervene upon so I can't go that route...

My question is... Can I drill a hole through the center of the fundamental where the Lexus logo is, so just use a circular fundamental chain to concur it? I've almost lost my keys then many times that I really need to solve this (without paying 250$ for a new cardinal). Would drilling a pigsty effect the key in any mode or possibly dismantle the entire matter?

EDIT: Those pictures didn't turn out too well.

I'm guessing since it costs $250 it has some sort of electronic fleck in it and youd probably drill correct through information technology.

well the primal is old, its for a 1991 Lexus LS400, and there's no buttons on it, its simply a cardinal that locks/unlocks the car. No wireless lock/unlock or alert or trunk, just a simple key with the Lexus part over it. Whether or not that means in that location'due south no chip in it i'm not sure, that'south what i was hoping you lot guys would know or could assist me find :)

$250 for a fricken central? That matter meliorate have a fleck in it. If not that's a full rip. Take information technology to a locksmith store and get a copy made.

Ditto. You're not understanding what that chip does. Information technology'south an anti theft thing. When information technology'south in the ignition, your car "can tell" it's the possessor's central.

Get creative with some plastic and epoxy. You can practise it!

yeah I had no idea that a chip inside a key could have anti-theft protection when in the ignition. I called them up, expecting a lot lower since the primal has no special features other then beingness a primal (that i know of at least). Just Lexus of Agree told me 250$, I'll effort a key person tomorrow and see if that works.

If information technology has a scrap, so you will not be able to merely go to a locksmith.

Chewing gun... and tin foil... :p

Truthfully yous might want to observe someone who has feel (or just the tools) to exercise some metallic work. You can find some sort of small strip of metal and weld it onto the cardinal kind of like new....

does that screw open the cardinal? Open up information technology upwardly and see where it would exist rubber to drill a pigsty.

popper....if that key costs that much you do have an anti theft device...dont drill that key anywhere....they whole thing is basically a radio transmitter....you tin either pay the dealer, or ask the service writer (the guy who tells yous what you need), if any of his guys wants to make a couple bucks...I know for a fact that the key only costs about twenty bucks and the remainder is for "programming"....then all you lot have to practise is become 1 of the store guys to program the key...I unremarkably left a fifty on the counter and that was all it took.

ps...i did automobile sound/remote start install for a long time, and part of that was bypassing anti theft devices....information technology will piece of work

wow, this is a most a picture perfect diagram of what my key looks similar, except for one minimal merely and then big difference... the right side of my key is undrillable because its broken off almost to the big part, no drill is gonna be big enough to fit a pivot through there. Oh well, i'll try asking the Lexus guys if they want to brand a couple of bucks :)

simply fill up the whole far side (area that broke) with epoxy. use some tape or similar every bit a mold for the epoxy.

you might want to sand the area of the primal wehre the epoxy will attatch to, for better bonding

in one case the epoxy south dry, drill a hole through it and stick in a cardinal ring.

I don't recall those antitheft chips existed in 1991. The Lexus keys are weird, though, and I don't think a regular key-cutting machine could brand ane. I seem to recall they take the key surface milled out in the heart, rather than cut on the sides. I would call around to some locksmiths, because I can't believe $250 is a fair cost for this.
